On Windows Server 2003 boxes we have enabled the following:
Administrative Templates
--> Windows Components --> Application Compatibilitiy ->
Turn Off Application Compatibilty Engine
Much to our surprise, we cannot now install applications that are NOT in the
application compatibility database. If we Disable this setting (the
default), we get a warning dialog and are given the choice to install the
app.
Our intent was to eliminate the warnings altogether and let any apps get
installed. We consider this a bug and cannot find any documentation on
Microsoft's site on the engine, how it should work or this setting.
Does anyone have any insite into how this is supposed to work and/or why it
is working the way it is?
Thank you.
