Turn off animated menus?

Somehow in setting up my computer after my upgrade to XP, I have turned on a
global setting for animated menus. In any program, whether a menu bar or a
right-click, the menus do a slow fade-in, as in the Windows 2000 animated
menus. Where can I go to turn this off?

Turn off eye candy in two places:

1. From Display applet, Appearance tab, Effects button. Uncheck first
box to enable effects.

2. From System applet, Advanced tab, first Settings button.
