I hope someone can help me. My company has a W2K Terminal
Server setup. One of our offices has to connect via Dial-
up. I am having an issue getting the printer at the
client (HP LaserJet 5100 PCL 6 on LPT1) to connect to the
same printer name on the server and connect to the same
TS### port every time it connects. The name keeps
attaching the the computer name and the session # on to
the printer name. I referenced MSKB article 318939 and
deleted the registry entry where it caches the printer
name as it sais. The printer connects fine (XP box) except
that the name changes. I have an MS Access App that has to
print to tray 3 on that printer. I can not specify a
specific printer because it changes... Also the port
changes from TS002 to TS004 to etc... Is there a way to
get it to always connect to a specific port. I tried
creating one locally (pooling) and the same name on the
server. Seemed to work, but nothing prints... If someone
could please help and be very specific, I would greatly
appreciate it...

If you mapped the client's printer to the lpt port (using
a net use command for instance), would this solve your
problem?

Have not tried that. I have looked at that option, but,
how do I know what port to push LPT# to? It changes from
time to time. One time it may be TS002 and the next it
will be TS004. How can I get that users session to always
log onto the the same session # and have the printer map
to the same port. I have tried to create a port locally as
a Standard TCP/IP Port. Then went to the server, added
the port (same named port) and then added the printer on
the server named exactly as it is on the local. According
to MS, this is supposed to work. One of the issues I have
locally is the Port. How do I get a Created Port to push
to LPT1 on an XP Box? I need to be able to Lock Down the
TS Port that the printer connects to so that no one else
can connect to it and that the printer always connects to
that TS Port. Then I need to have the Printer, when it is
mapped to not add the Computer Name and the Session ID to
the printer...
