TS Licencing and Mapped Drives

Set up: Windows 2000 Server on server and Win 2000 Pro on
workstations connected with TS. Total 12 users but 15
licences held. System has worked with no probs for two
years.
Problem: Over the weekend I set up a new program which
required a mapped drive for the users of that program.
Then today as users logged on we reached a point where no-
one else could get on with the error "Terminal services
has disconnected" appearing. Spoke to MS who said that if
you map a drive then the users of that drive also need a
licence - in effect a doubling of the number of licences
required. Not good!! So, has anyone had any experience of
this or any ideas on how to get round it. (I have actually
got round it but not legally and don't want it to stay
that way)

A 'workaround' in any way would probably result in an
illegal configuration... Why don't you just purchase some
CALs and be done with the problem?

I went through all the logs with MS in Sydney. Their
response was to refer me to articles and info sheets with
possible solutions, after checking out various items with
me on the phone and saying that I would have to pay for a
support call to take it any further. The problem only
arose after putting in the mapped drive which, because of
the way the program suppliers wanted it set up, probably
in effect doubles the number of users - in reality it
hasn't changed. As I said in my original post, everything
was fine for two years until I changed the set-up of this
particular program - then the business ran out of licences
on the next working day. What I really need is a ruling
from MS that by putting in a mapped drive the way it has
been done will mean a need for the number of users under
that mapped drive to have extra CAL's. I can't find
anything in Knowledge Base but maybe I'm looking in the
wrong area.
