I have a w2k server on sp3. (TS is in App mode.) I have 10 TS CALs under
type Open. All 10 have been assigned. I have 10 TS CALs under type Select.
Only one of the Select Licenses have been assigned. There is also the
unlimited licenses for w2k machines and xp pro machines. Of the 10 Open
Licenses that were being used, only three of the machines are in use. The
other seven have been replaced with newer machines running xp pro (they are
unplugged from the network and sitting in the basement in pieces). There
are only a handful of machines that Terminal serve into the server that are
win98. This is the problem I am running into.
Terminal Server is running out of licenses. But I'm not sure how. My
machine has xp pro and it tells me I can't terminal serve in to the machine
when there are already 10 users in. If someone logs out, I can login.
Otherwise it doesn't work. How is this possible when I am in the unlimited
list (In Terminal Server Licensing Program)? How does the Select CAL type
work? Why has only one license of that type been used? Shouldn't it use
those licenses before telling anyone that there aren't enough licenses? How
do I un-assign the licenses that are attached to machines that are no longer
being used?
I have searched the Microsoft knowledgebase and have come up with nothing
that helps me. How can I get terminal server to work for all users? I am
running into a handful of angry users from our satelite offices which can't
get to programs on the server to run their month end reports. And most of
them are XP Pro users!
Thank you,
Matt
