bob

let me give you a little background. i am running an
domain in mixed mode( mostly nt with a few AD accounts ).
i am trying to connect to my metaframe server but i am
getting a license error( i am using xp prof). Most of the
pc's that connect are windows 2000 or win 98. i am having
an issue with some pcs that work while other do not. i
beleive i need to install a license server.

do i install a 2000 license server? if so, is there some
documentation about how to do this. Been looking around
and can not seem to find anything.

thanks for your help in advance,
bob

Yes, you need a Licensing Server, and you must buy and install TS
CALs for all clients that run W9x, NT 4.0, W2K Home and XP Home.
W2K Pro and XP Pro clients get a free TS CAL, as soon as you have
installed and activated the LS. Check:

To install the Terminal Services Licxensing Service, go to Control
Panel - Add/Remove programs - Add Windows Component - Terminal
Services - Licensing Service. You should do this on the Domain
Controller. After installation, follow this article:

Install CALs Over the Internet

Vera,

thanks for the reply. I have another question.
since we are in a nt domain enviroment with limited AD, do
i try to install the licensing server on the nt domain
controller which is nt 4.0? do i try to install in our ad
enviroment which is w2k?

which is the best way to proceed?

thanks
bob

If all your domain controllers are NT4, you're in an NT4 domain, and the
license server is found by broadcast. The LS should be on a member server
on the same subnet as the TS.
