well .. i dont know why this wont work..

i have linksys wrt54g wireless router and after trying to just forward
a bunch of random ports to my home pc i put it on dmz... so i still
get " there was no answer" when i try to connect to the public ip of my
home network which is 68.x.x.x

right now im trying to connect while on the same network ... so i dont
know if that would be a problem. but all the settings on the router
are set correctly to allow me to do this..

i dont know if the ip address i should type into the VPN connection on
my laptop should specify the subnetwork address for my home pc the
192.168.x.x number that it picks up from the dhcp on my router...

so thats where im stuck now.. let me know

home pc : win2k pro 68.x.x.x , 192.168.x.115

laptop : winxp pro 68.x.x.x , 192.168.x.110

i havnt tried to connect while on another isp connection

also on the win2k home machine i have set up allow incoming connection
with vpn allowed

If you are trying to test it from within your home network, you need to
use the local "private" IP address of the VPN server. VPN will work over a
LAN connection, so you should be able to make a connection. If you can't,
you will need to check the setup on the "server".

When you can connect locally you can try again from a remote client. For
PPTP you will need to forward tcp port 1723 from the router to the server's
LAN IP. The client needs to use the router's public IP to connect. The
connnection through the Internet is to the router. Then the router forwards
the traffic to the VPN server on the LAN.

If you get an error 721, your router is probably blocking GRE, which is
required for PPTP. See if your router has a way to allow GRE (which is IP
protocol 47). It may have someting like PPTP pass-through mode.
