You can't remove it but you can turn off the alerts. Open Control Panel,
open Security Center, click "Change the way Security Center alerts me,"
remove the checks from the items about which you do not wish to receive
alerts.

when I start computer i receive msg that i have to enter a password in order
for windows to start. this started when i upgraded. i have never had to enter
a password to start windows

Did you install the .Net 1.1 update? If so then it will appear that you need
to give a password but all you should have to do is click on your user name
and it should go into windows.

Click on Start and run: type in control userpasswords2
Uncheck the box User must enter a username and password.
