Although Simple File Sharing cannot be disabled in Windows XP Home, you can
limit the folders that are available to other users. Follow the steps below:
Restart the computer in Safe Mode. To do this, follow these steps.
Restart your computer. Before you see the Windows XP logo, hold down the F8
key. A menu appears with startup options.
Click the Safe Mode option
Login in as an Administrator. A warning appears about running in Safe Mode.
Click Yes to continue.
Launch Windows Explorer and locate the folder(s) whose permissions you wish
to change.
Right-click the folder, and then click Properties from the shortcut menu.
The folder Properties dialog box appears.
Under the Sharing tab, you can enable the sharing property for this folder.
Under the General tab, you may designate this as a Read-only folder, if
desired.
Under the Security tab, you can modify Permissions for specific user groups.
Restart the computer in normal startup mode to complete the process.
For additional information on this topic, please consult your Windows
documentation or contact Microsoft.
....but I don't see a "Sharing" tab when in safe mode
There are multiple windows xp users on the computer...I don't want to set up
a network, or use the Sahred folder...I just want everyone to be able to
access (and edit) everyone's files.
And this seems to be OK except for one user..."Tracey"
All users can access all files UNLESS they are in docs & settings/tracey/my
documents......access is denied
And .............docs & settings/all users...access is denied is denied too
(I'm presuming because I can't get into Tracey's files).
Can someone help please??
