Trying to set up a connection

Me and my roommate are trying to setup his computer so
that he can use my dialup connection. When I try to run
network setup wizard it says some error has occured. Do we
have to have a router to be able to do this or is there
some way to directly connect his computer to mine so we
can share my dial up connection?

First what is the error? Second how are you connecting
to you friends computer? A router is not necessary.

I can't figure out what the error is, it just says "an
error occured during the configuration of the network on
this computer" "you can configure this computer manually
or you can run the wizard again with different settings"

I'm connecting to my roommates computer using a ethernet
cable

If you are doing a direct connection with a cable you need
to make sure it is a cross over cable(pc to pc). The
error could be caused for a number of reasons, you should
try to set it up manually if this still occurs
