When I click on <Start>, then <All Programs>, I have 3 columns of icons and
program names. The problem is, I can only see the leftmost 2 columns readily.
Without upping my resolution (I'm running 800 X 600), is there a way to
squeeze these columns together a bit more? Thanks.

Rename the shortcuts so that they are shorter and take up less space.

I.e. Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal could be renamed to Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE
or even Ad-Aware.

I.e. Outlook Express Freebie Backup could be renamed to OE Freebie BU.

Those are the longest items that I have in my Start Menu.

Simular to what other user stated, rigtht click on the start menu and
exlore all users. What I did was I created a folder for utilities, a
folder for games, and a folder for Media software or whaterver you
prefer. Then all you have to do is drag the programs in to the folder.
You will see those folders and whatever programs you don't put in the
folders.

Yeah, traverlee, and the funny thing is, I already made a folder scheme
similar to what you're suggesting, I just needed to carry it further! Thanks.

OOooops, hold on a minute, guys! Upon looking at my startup menu, maybe I'm
missing something somwhere, but I can't see any names that would be so long
as to crowd the columns and creating a hard-to-see situation. I've got a good
screenshot, but I don't know how or where to send it. If someone would advise
me, I'll be happy to let you see what I'm seeing. Thanks.

Wow..you must have set some kind of world record for the amount of
applications on your PC. Outstanding! Glad you go the help you needed.

Ron, you cannot attach anything, you're using Microsoft CDO for Windows
2000.

See if this helps.

With the Classic Start Menu, both of these need to be UNChecked.
XP Start Menu doesn't have Use Personalized Menus option.

XP Start Menu >>
Right click the Start button | Properties |
Start Menu tab | Customize button | Advanced tab |
Scroll down to and UNCheck:
Scroll Programs * |
Click OK | Click Apply | Click OK

Classic Start Menu >>
Right click the Start button | Properties |
Start Menu tab | Customize button |
Scroll down to and UNCheck both of these:
Scroll Programs * |
Use Personalized Menus **
Click OK | Click Apply | Click OK

[*Specifies whether to display the items on the Programs menu as one long
scrolling menu or as horizontal pages. Depending on your screen resolution,
if you have more than 29 or 38 programs installed, and you select to have
one long scrolling menu, you can access the programs you don’t see
by clicking the arrow at each end of the list of programs.]

[**Specifies whether to turn on Personalized Menus.
Personalized Menus keeps the Programs menu clean by hiding items you haven't
used recently, while still keeping other programs easily accessible. You
can gain access to hidden programs by clicking the down arrow at the bottom
of the Programs menu.]

Ok, guys, here's the situation in a nutshell: my fiance has the exact same
Dell Dimension 4600 computer that I do, and we are both running 800X600
resolution. When she clicks on <Start> and then <all programs>, she also has
3 columns of icons and program names, however, she can easily see all 3 of
her columns because the column width is narrower on her machine. Hopefully,
this explanation is better. Again, thanks for beating a dead horse with me.

Loanarranger,
Right click START and go into properties, click on Customize and compare all
the settings between the two machines. Are you using Large Icons and is she
using Small Icons?

Not sure if this helps. Right click on the task bar and choose
properties. Then choose the tab that says Start menu. There are two
options. New Style and older classic start menu. Try the one that is not
checked, and see if that is what you mean. Hope it helps
