Trying to run scheduled tasks but getting stymied by password...

Hi there. I hope someone can help me.

I'm a very experienced Windows 98SE user, but I have only had this Windows
XP computer for about a month. I set up a couple of maintenance tasks to run
daily on my computer (namely defrag and disk cleanup), but they won't run,
and the reason they won't run is because "no user account password was
entered."

So, I go into the task by right-clicking it and selecting "properties."
Then, I click on the "set password..." button. I set the password, and then
confirm it and click "ok." Then, when I click "Apply," I get an error
message telling me that "access is denied" because I "do not have permission
to perform the requested operation."

Excuse me, but this is my computer! From whom do I have to get permission,
my mother?!

Now, I enter "help and support" hell because I cannot find the information I
need to resolve this simple, little issue. I'm not a computer programmer,
but I'm not computer illiterate, either. I tried searching the Microsoft
"knowledge base," and it's a migraine in the making.

Can someone just perhaps point me in the right direction? By the way, the
help file on my computer refers to a "security tab" when I open up the
properties for my scheduled tasks, but I have yet to see any "security tab"
in the tasks' properties.

Thanks very much for any help you can give me.

I wouldn't recommend using defrag on a daily basis. You are wearing out your
hard drive(s) needlessly and exposing yourself to the possibility of data
corruption. Defrag shouldn't be run except when the benefits will outweight
the possibilty of a negative impact. On most systems this is monthly at
most.

Hey Marji,

How about sharing your answer with those of us still struggling with this.
