Trying to recover lost favorites....

......from XP/ IE 6 SP1.
I recently changed ISP's and in the process of removing my old ISP's files
(using XP's Add/Remove Program utility) and installing the new ISP's files
(using its provided wizard), discovered that all of my existing Favorites had
been deleted and replaced with the original manufacturer-installed favorites.
Two System Restores (using different dates) haven't brought them back. Are
they still lurking in some form deep in my machine, able to be restored, or
am I just totally screwed here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated - obviously.
Thanks

Hi dl_woodall :-)

Did you make a backup of your Favorites at any point? Have you emptied the
Recycle bin since they were lost? If the answer to these two questions are
Yes | No respectively, you may be able to restore the lost files. If
not...well...you can get them back, but, it most likely will cost you, as
there are programs that do this, but, they are not free.

You may just have to revisit the sites and save new Favorites. Perhaps
someone else here has some information on how to retrieve them without a 3rd
party program.

However, here is how to backup your Favorites so that you can retrieve them
in the future.

How to backup and restore my Internet Favorites / Bookmarks.

Hope this helps

Thanks Jan,
No, I didn't backup. Mistakenly thought System Restore would cover this
scenario. Obviously learned a valuable lesson there. And thanks for the tip
on the Recycle Bin: Didn't even to look there. Unfortunately the missing
Favorites weren't dumped there. 8^(
Again, thanks for the help,

Again, thanks for the help,

You're very welcome. Sorry I couldn't offer more encouraging information,
but, if they are just missing, and perhaps not deleted, you might try using
your Search to see if they are still somewhere on the HD. If you can
remember the name of one, put it in the Search window and see if it finds
it. If so, the others may be there too. At least you'd know where they
were to copy them back to the Favorites folder.

If that does not work, then hopefully, someone else here may something that
will help.

Try searching for favorites. I tried it on mine and it found my folder.
Maybe if you can find them you can import them back into IE.
