trying to play AVI files

I hoping that someone can help me out...
I am unable to play avi files I have made sure that avi is selected in the
file types able to be played?
Also I wanted to know how I can combine more than one avi file?

I have had success using the DivX player on .avi files. www.divx.com

It depends on what sort of avi they are.
If they are dv-avi you could combine them using movie maker.
