Trying to move files: Access Denied!

Ok I made a mistake. Before I bought Vista I had setup a partition for
10GB for a windows os (I was using Win 2000 before Vista). So I’m
redoing my system and I want to install SQL Server 2005 on to a
different drive. In order for me to do that it still has to copy 1.6
GB of temp files to my C: drive! So I’m trying to move some files off
of my C Drive on to my data drive temporarily.

My Problem / Question is this: I cannot delete some files from my C
Drive (usually dlls or exes) They can be copied somewhere else but not
deleted even though I am an Administrator on this machine. I have
tried "Taking Ownership" of these files and then moving them but it
still doesn’t work! How can I delete these files without getting the
error: "You need permission to perform this action"?

Hello,

Two suggestions:

1) If the files are in use (i.e. the program is currently running or some
program has loaded the .dll), you won't be able to delete them until the
program(s) that have loaded the files are closed.

2) The system won't let you delete system files (such as files in
windows\system32) by default. To delete them, you have to not only take
ownership of them but also add a permission giving yourself full control in
the security tab. ** NOT RECOMMENDED **

3) Files that were created from another operating system may give you
problems. The solution is to give yourself permission to access them via the
security tab.
