Hi,
I'm searching myself dizzy looking for a clue as to what to do
here....

I run Win 2k with SP4, have been/am using a dial-up modem (slow as
cold molasses)...
Got my Verizon wireless usb modem, supposedly super easy to setup and
install...HUH yeah right...(murphy's law lives at my house)
I followed the instructions: install software, hook up modem at
prompt, let windows detect modem,
all goes well till there, I get an error message just after a dialog
screen acknowledging windows detects the modem :
"ZV Access Manager.exe has generated errors and will be closed by
Windows."

called Tech support walked thru what they could think of checking usb
and extension cable, uninstalling, reinstalling from a fresh download,
soft boot, hard boot... same message,
tried disabling firewall, and antivirus unplugged my dial-up modem...
same message
called tech support again, again walked through EVERYTHING, he
suggested taking my modem to a different PC, installing it getting it
to activate , then being able to MANUALLY configure the activated
modem to my PC,,, one problem, don't know anybody round here that
would let that happen...asked a couple of ppl at church, nope,

Ok so I call tech support again, NOW she says, that the problem is in
my PC not the modem or software... so I ask so what do you think the
issue is? "well, I don't know, never had this situation
before" ...try going to MS nightmare.com for patches or service
packs...
I know just enough about my PC to get me by (usually)
there were 500+entries for win2k alone!

So. I start at Annoyances.org, tech republic, Googled the "generated
error" part of the phrase
followed threads indicating these error messages could be a software
conflict, a security breach(virus, trojan etc,)

so I reinstalled avast, ad aware, enabled my firewall, ran a couple of
diagnostic programs,

the only thing other than some personal identity security issues I
could even assume would be my problem is:
when I reformatted and installed win 2k I did not enable any
networking options, (working dial-up, didn't need any of that...

Got any ideas what I need to do?
I just hate having a new toy sitting on the shelf and not being able
to use it :(

Thanks
Colisa

I found a lot of info using Google to search "VZAccess Manager.exe ".

The application appears to be optional and can be disabled until a resolution
can be found. Here's one website's info about this app:

Offered by Verizon Wireless, VZAccess Manager lets mobile employees stay on
top of their business when they're on the road by bringing more of the office
directly to their laptops.

It conveniently brings together the remote access connections and business
applications they need to stay productive in a single, easy-to-use control
panel.

This app was developed by Smith Micro Software. Some of the Google results had
resolutions by them.

My suggestion is to disable startup of this app. Since Windows 2000 does not
come with a utility to tweak the startup configuration, you can download and
install this System Internals utility from this website:

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/autoruns.html

If it appears again after disabling it, the app will have to be uninstalled. Be
sure that you have a way to reinstall it beforehand.
