Trying to add printer on another networked system. Things seem to go ok
until 'Connect to Printer: You are about to ..... viruses or scripts.....'
Enter "Yes" and "Windows cannot connect to the printer. The driver that
you are trying to install is not compatible with Windows XP."

What the heck does this mean? Any printer used with XP must be on
another XP machine? Any help?

Other computer: WinNT workstation with HP DeskJet710C

The WinNT has Deskjet 710C drivers for WinNT, not XP. The XP computer is
looking for drivers to install on the WinNT machine but they aren't the
right ones. When you go to add the printer on the XP box, don't have it
look for the drivers automatically on the remote computer. Instead,
have it look for drivers locally. The 710C is old and XP probably has
the drivers built in.

XP does have the driver build in. I can not find a way to get it loaded
however. I have loaded it under local printer but that does me no good.
When I load network printer it automatically tries to load from NT
system and does not give me a way to get it to load from local XP
system. Any ideas?

When you are doing the Add Printer routine, uncheck the box that says to
automatically look for drivers. Or run the HP 710C's installation
locally on the machine first instead of using Add Printer.

I do not understand what you mean by 'Run the HP 710C's installation
locally on the machine first.'?

Do you mean to install the 710C locally first? Then try to install the
networked printer?

Some of HP's older printers require you to install the drivers on the
local machine first. I believe I had to do this for a 720C.
