Trying to import the Media center DVR-ms format

There is also a freeware alternative to using MyDVD to extract the MPEG
streams from the DVR-MS file. It's called DVR-Ripper and you can download
it at www.thegreenbutton.com/downloads.asp

I use it all the time and it works great for me, but others have had
problems getting it to work. But since it's free, it's probably worth
giving it a try, IMO...

Thanks Bob,

I tried it first but had video/audio sync issues, and it took a very long
time to render the file.

Bob,

Another note about DVR-Ripper: It's free, but it needs the Demux software
installed, which isn't free beyond it's trial period.

PapaJohn,

I agree that DVR-Ripper is pretty slow, and not a very polished or stable
piece of software. But it does the job, and the price is right. What I
really like about it is that it can rip a bunch of dvr-ms files in "batch
mode" while I'm sleeping or at work (or ideally sleeping at work ;-).

The version of Xmuxer I have was a free download, but I just checked the
Moonlight web site where I got it, and it's no longer listed on their
download page. I was able to find the direct link to it on Google.

I read the EULA and the README file that came with it, and confirmed that it
was free -- not a trial version. Or did I miss something?

Bob,

A note in the license.txt file with Xmuxer says ".... This is not free
software... You are licensed to use .... without charge for a period of 21
days. If you use... after the 21 day evaluation period a registration fee of
$79.95 is required...."

MyDVD does a 'batch import' and save - kind-of as you can select multiple
files when importing, and saving the one project file generates all the
individual files. Also, TMPGEnc can do a batch process.

Mostly my issue with DVD-Ripper was the sync issue and the fee for Xmuxer,
when I already own MyDVD and TMPGEnc.

And Sonic seems to have an alliance with Microsoft and it might reflect in
better alignment between their DVD software and the Microsoft video files.
So it might work best down to road to ride the two that are most aligned, as
I just want to easily get the recorded TV clips into MM2.

I added you post about DVR-Ripper to the web page. Others might want to do
like you, or test them both.

I used sonic my-dvd and it says "could not complete the last command because: GOP not before first pic (dvderr, -26302) know what I can do to fix it?
