Here's what I've done ... tell me what I'm doing wrong... this is driving me nuts..

Copy outlook.pst from desktop to laptop (already played games with "hidden" files to get it to show up, so it's overwriting the original installation "default" pst file

On laptop, ensured that new copy of outlook.pst was not set up as Archive or Readonly by unclicking those in properties, same for the Outlook folder in which they resided. Closed folder, reopened and checked

Start Outlook on laptop. It looks good, but there's a problem
All my messages copied properly, I can read/reply from laptop... GOO
All items in my task lists show up properly, with last updates done on desktop... GOO
Click on contacts -- all looks good here... GOO
Open a new email and start to type in addresses... BA

OK, now I think I've really messed it up..

I went through the threads and saw that I wasn't supposed to overwrite the original Outlook.ps

I went into the folder and renamed the Outlook.pst to jbt.ps

Tried to open Outlook. Just as I expected, I got all kinds of errors about not being able to open/find Outlook.pst. It created a new one and then I told it to use jbt.pst as a "personal

It still wouldn't open address books and, as an added bonuse, it wouldn't open up the old emails eithe

I guess the next step is to just say to heck with it and reinstall Office, but I'm sure there's some (expletive deleted) setup file hidden someplace, who knows where, that's gonna hold onto this error forever..

H E L P ! ! ! !

Well, thanks for the help, I guess... I'm still having the original problem that brought me to this board... did I not pay dues, or something??

This is what you're doing wrong. Overwriting a PST can produce problems.
