Hi,
I purchased an xp home edition sp1 back in 2002 and I have never used it now
I am trying to find out if it is the full version or just an upgraded
version. Is there anyway to tell this. I do not have the original box
anymore just the package where the disc is kept which contains the product
key and then the cd set: X09-69091. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure, but I think that upgrade copies are not bootable.

No, that's not correct. Not only are they bootable, but you can even
do a clean installation after booting from one. The requirement to use
an upgrade version is to *own* a previous qualifying version's
installation CD, not to have it installed. When setup doesn't find a
previous qualifying version installed, it will prompt you to insert
its CD as proof of ownership. Just insert the previous version's CD,
and follow the prompts. Everything proceeds quite normally and quite
legitimately.

Installing the Upgrade on to a clean hard drive gets my vote as a better way
of doing it. I've upgraded with 98SE on the drive and after installing XP
on top of it leaves a parcel of strange and useless files and folders.
Upgrading to a clean hard drive (inserting 98SE CD to confirm) avoids all
the junk stuff.

Upgades of previous versions of Windows definitely were not bootable, but I
don't know about current versions. I vaguely remember hunting for a bootable
copy of XP.

I can't remember for sure, but I think that at least upgrades to
Windows 2000 were bootable. Maybe not all other previous versions, but
perhaps some.

As I said, XP Upgrades *are* bootable.

***Thank you to all that responded****
From what I have read in regards to my question, the disc I have must be a
full version since it does not read Upgrade on the actual disc in the
hologram.
