Trying to Figure Out IE8's Compatibility Mode

I'm still trying to work thru the impact of IE8 on my FP sites. So far, I've
only found one site that has changed, but I cannot figure out what is
different or how to fix it. I'd appreciate any feedback on the following
issue:

http://www.saintpaulsumc.com/index2.htm - When viewing this page with IE8,
the Horizontal Lines - <hr width="75%" size="1" color="#444477"> - have
thickened up considerably. When I click on IE8's Compatibility Mode, they go
back to being viewed as expected. I use Horizontal Lines in a number of
other sites using the same coding, but those Horizontal Lines view properly
either with or without Compatibility Mode. I'm clueless why this site is
behaving differently. Any suggestions?

Thanks very much for your help,
JW

Thanks, Steve - that fixed it. Still not sure why some of my sites are fine
in IE8 leaving in the <size="1"> parameter. Looks like it might be related
to differences with the DOCTYPE statements. Thanks again for your help.
