I am trying to download a driver for my Canon Imagerunner
2200 series copier that I share w/2 other computers
through a network. Canon told me to download the driver
but when I try to open it I get this error message:
C:\Documents and Settings\Preferred
Customer\Desktop\win2k_xp_pcl5e_5e.exe is not a valid
Win32 application.
I'm not sure what that means.
I have tried to open it, save it, and even unzipped it
successfully, but nothing will "execute" it. Can anyone
guide me in the right direction? Thanks.

If you have unzipped it, you know that win2k_xp_pcl5e_5c.exe (I assume
that the file name in your post is a typo) is a self-extracting zip
file. So what file are you attempting to open when you get the error
message?

Try this:
1. unzip the file to a new directory (folder)
2. in that directory, open readme.txt. If you have a working printer,
print it out. Otherwise, read the section on installing the driver and
follow the instructions in the part with the heading "To install using
the Add Printer Wizard:"
3. Instead of steps 5 and 6, click the "Have Disk" button and either
type in the full path of the directory you just created, or if you can't
remember it exactly, type C:\ (over the A:\ -- assuming the directory
you created is on your C: drive) and "Browse" to the directory. Note
than when you unzip the downloaded file into a new directory, it will
create a directory named "pcl5e_5c" within your new directory. Make
sure that the path ends up something like C:\....\pcl5e_5c
4. follow steps 7 and 8 from the readme file.

If this doesn't work, post back.

This error message usually means that the file wasn't downloaded
completely or correctly. I would try downloading it again.
