I can't play the games on Pogo because it tells me that I have to upgrade my
Java. When i TRY TO DO THIS, IT WON'T LET ME. It tells me I have a
"Internal Server Error, Server I.D. 1-76). What is a Internal Server Error
and where d I go to fix it?

Hi vr holt,

Please pay special attention to Step B - as it included Pogo specific support.

Online games are usually developed using Flash, Java, or Virtual Machine.
The most likely solution to a problem with an online game is to install, upgrade,
or reinstall the right one for the game site you're playing on.

A. For Zone.com games: Zone.com are converting most of their games for Flash
to avoid the conflicts between the Sun Java system and Microsoft's Virtual Machine.
Install Flash from: http://sdc.shockwave.com/shockwave/download/frameset.fhtml

B. Most other game sites still use Java. You can install Java and find more help
tips at this webpage: http://java.com/en/download/help/pogo.jsp

C. If the online game still won't load, or gives you errors, try these steps:

1. Click START / Control Panel / Internet Options and click on the Advanced Tab.

2. Below HTTP 1.1 is the Sun Java/ Microsoft VM section: Make sure all Java choices
are unchecked (especially JIT) and then press [OK]. You may be prompted to reboot.

3. If you don't see a Microsoft VM section then download Microsoft Virtual Machine for:
Windows 98 / Me / NT / XP from: http://www.abxair.com/software/msjavx86.exe

4. After you download Java, double-click the file to install it, reboot and then follow
the directions in Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other advanced options.

* Whenever you get a Java Virtual Machine Security Update from Windows Update, you
will have to follow Steps 1. and 2..to disable JIT compiler and other adv. options again.

6. If the problem persists Adjust Your browser settings using this basic example:
http://www3.sympatico.ca/nibblesnbits/EnterRooms.html#IE

7. Try these suggestions for Zone's Java Games:
http://classic.zone.msn.com/zzzz/help/helpjavagames.asp

8. Maybe it's a software conflict: Make certain that your Firewall or Antivirus program is
not configured to block Java Applets. Norton's products for example have that option.
Regardless, temporarily disable Startup programs one at a time, starting with Firewall,
Antivirus, AdBlockers, & Internet Accelerators using the method in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=331796
or this utility: http://new.jtsoft2001.com/windows/startup.php

9. If you have a Coffee Cup icon in your system tray (next to the time) you might have a
conflict between MS VM and Java: Uninstall Java using Control Panel / Remove Programs.

10. Run a MS AntiSpyware Scan: www.microsoft.com/spyware

11. Check the Help / Support section of the game site in question for Java topics relevant to
that site. There is usually an email or a (non Java) help chat available as well. :-)

Thanks Jimmy: I followed your instructions for downloading and installing
JAVa. The little applet showed up in the "system tray" and I thought I had
it fixed. As soon as I shut down my browser and turn it back on its gone and
POGO says I don'w have JAVA. Java does not show up in the list of Programs,
but the JRE is in the {change or rewmove programs list).
I have Norton but I am not sure if I should just turn it off or delete
it./??Also have Spyware and AVG. Could these be a problem. You re the only
one who has gottne me this far and I thank you.,

Hi vr holt,

Let's see if it's your Internet Explorer settings by adding Pogo to your trusted sites:

First: Close all IE windows, and then
Click START > Control Panel (Switch it to Advanced view if it isn't already)
Click Internet Options
Click Security
Click Trusted Sites
Uncheck "Require server verification (https:)..."
Add this web site: *.pogo.com
Click OK
Click OK

Try Pogo again. If it still gives you a problem, exit Nortons or try the solutions at:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/pogo.xml

Is it Norton Antivirus? If so you might have a conflict as you are
running AVG as well. Try disabling one.

Best to uninstall Norton (Symantec) products as a real test. Using the
"exit" from the Systray icon only removes the icon (until the next boot) and
does not shut down the program. AVG should not be interfering.

Tha nks everyone, its finally working. I had to shut off Norton and then the
little "coffeepot" (JAVA) showed up and the games loaded. I can't tell y ou
how much this helped me. Your are wonderful

Norton is pretty invasive at times. It you're looking for some free
programs (which I run on my machines here), look to AVG from www.grisoft.com
or Avast from www.avast.com. They're quite good, free to home users, and
while doing their job don't get in the way.
