Trying to clear the list that appears when you search on the net

Hi.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I would like
to find out how I can clear the drop down list that
appears in search boxes, i.e. when opening a file or
browsing the internet. I don't want it to show all the
other searches I have done that begin with the same
letter. I might not be making any sense but I would
appreciate the help.
