Trusts between Win2K and Win2K3

We are a single domain/forest that wants to create a forest trust with
another single domain/forest. We are Windows 2000 native. They are Windows
2003. I am looking for advantages/disadvantages to creating an external
domain trust to the other domain versus upgrading to Windows 2003 and
creating a forest trust. Is there an advantage to either (such as resource
sharing, exchange GAL sharing, etc.)? I'm already aware of the fact that
Windows 2003 can create transitive trusts, but is that an advantage since we
are both a single domain?

The only difference between a forest trust and an external trust is
"transitivity"
If each forest has only a single domain, then transitivty is not a factor.

GAL sharing requires MIIS or some other product.
Resource sharing does not care about the type of trust in place.

In fact, if you had complex forest structures and could benefit from a
forest trust, you would still want to create short-cut trusts to improve
cross-forest resource access performance.
