TrustedInstaller.exe is killing my PC

Hi there,
I bought a new machine about a year ago with Vista
pre-installed. It seemed OK at first but is just getting slower and slower
every time that I use it. After you turn it on, CPU activity is at 100% and
the hard disk light is constantly on. It appears to be caused by
TrustedInstaller, but even when you kill this process of, it reappears.
This is making my system unusable and it seems to be getting gradually
worse. I saw another post about this process which claimed that deleting
your problem history would sort the problem out, but it made no difference
to me.

Can anyone help me?

Hello,
Have you installed SP1 on the system?
There were some updates taken that helped with this situation. for some of
the components to check less frequently and to decrease the amount of time
required to do the checking.
So the if SP1 is not on the system, that would be the recommendation.
In most cases this is a component that is asking to check for updates,
TrustedInstaller runs when checking for updates.
The Windows Update is one of the checks.
Media Player does it's own requests for check for updates.
Other components may as wll.

Windows Modules Installer service is suppose to be TrustedInstaller. Is
the service running under Services. It's set to manual start-up on my
machine and it's not running.

It's set to manual on mine also. Something else must be invoking it.

Hi Darrell,
no it's not implicitly installed on the system. On my
duaghters laptop, SP1 is presented as an abailable update, but not on my PC.
I assumed that was because I have already installed all the automatic
updates available individually.

A few things to consider. In Power Options > Change plan settings > Change
advanced power settings >
expand Hard disk, change 'Settings' to 20 minutes or less.
Expand Processor power management, change 'Minimum' to 5%.
You are also due for a reformatting and reinstall of Windows.

There is more to SP1 than all the previous individual updates.

You installing all the updates individually has nothing to do with a SP.
I think your best option would be to install the SP and then apply
the updates to see if your problem is corrected.
