Truncating icon labels on Desktop

Hi,

Does anyone know a setting that stops Windows XP
truncating icon labels on the desktop (i.e. the label for
an icon ends with ...). I seem to remember there being a
setting for this in Win '98, but I can't remember what it
was. I know I can rename icons to avoid this, but I don't
want to do this. I also know this happens if icons are
too close together, but this isn't the case with my set-up.

I think it may be possible by setting the display
properties of icons (Desktop > Properties > Display >
Icon), but I suspect this is only possible if I switch
back to Windows Classic mode, which I don't wish to do.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Stu

Stuart,

Go to the desktop and right-click. Then, select
Properties/Appearance/Advanced and select the Items ... Icon, Icon Spacing
(Vertical) and Icon Spacing (Horizontal) and have a ball experimenting
changing the settings.

I am not sure but I have sometimes suspected that it takes a reboot for some
of these settings to effect so if you don't see an immediate change, try a
reboot. Then again, I may be all wet about that. If so, I hope one of the
gurus will straighten us both out.

Good luck,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks. That's the setting I was thinking of. However,
in Windows XP the dialogue says that these settings only
take effect if you switch to the Windows Classic theme. I
don't really wish to do this. So, is there another way?

Any help still appreciated. I get the horrible feeling
that I can only get what I want by returning to Windows
Classic style, which is all rather arbitrary and basically
sucks ;0)

Cheers,
Stu
