Truncating/ Eliminating few digits

Hello,

Currently, I have a set of phone numbers on one column.
On another column, I would like only the first 6 digits displayed.

Like this,

(abc) def-ghij --> abcdef

Is this possible? I tried commands like =trunc and =--left but it did not work.
