It makes a big difference on older games where they used very basic meshes
to start off with. I also see a big difference with Morrowind (you need a
third party patch to enable it, cant remember the name of it).

What card do you have? I think it effects it more on 9500 and up due to the
way they have it running but try it and see. Only you can tell if it is too
much.

It's not so much "does it affect performance?", more like "does it make any
difference?"

I've got a Radeon 8500LE and tried several games support Truform (UT2003,
Call of Duty) and still couldn't tell you exactly what the difference is!
I've edited the config files and turned truform on the catalyst panel (yes,
I do know what I'm doing) and cannot really tell the difference. Although I
will say that I'm now playing CoD with Truform on but I think that it might
just be peace of mind that Truform is turned on.

By the way, I've had a few sherberts this avo. Not that it makes any
difference - I just wanted say.

Well you asked about performance... anyway I have had it on and off while
playing Madden 2004 and it does add more reflection off the helmets and it
does make it look a bit more real in other ways but is it worth it? You will
have to decide that for yourself. Now that I have a faster CPU I have it on
but only a few games will use it. Unreal 2003 is another one.

With older games, like Half Life, Truform smoothes the edges of some of the
characters, however games must be compatible with this feature. As far as I
know, it makes no difference to the surrounding maps.

ATI has a demo showcasing the effect - the "Dolphin" demo ...

When I use truform in Morrowind, Morrowind crashes.

Mine also got wobbly, and I didn't see any huge difference. Truform is
basically a tool most game coders ignored, and it's fast becoming a footnote
in the ATI specs. Games look great with AA and AF cranked up, and that's all
most people care about.
