Hi, all yet again. Are there any scientists or engineers here? I'm in
dire need of a freeware program that can produce true 3-dimensional graphs
of data. For example, I have 2 factors and 1 response and would like to
graph how this response varies with changes in the 2 factors. I'd be
plotting the response in the z axis (upwards) and the 2 factors on the x
and y axes (along the screen and into the screen, respectively).

TIA,

Bob

See if TChartOffice will do what you want.

dadiOH, thanks for the suggestion. TChartOffice only plots 2-D data while
simulating a 3-D appearance. I appreciate your input, though.

TChartOffice _can_ do surface plots (x,y,z). Look at the samples.

Try Kyplot, which is still available as freeware here:

http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32_freeware.html

One potential problem with it...

It writes numerous files to windows\system. Even though the program is only
a bit less than 2 1/2 years old, numerous of those system files are probably
older than the ones one currently has. That means that any program using a
routine in the now overwritten file will be in trouble.

However, the program d/l is a self extracting exe which means that one can
extract the files and read the setup.lst to see if the system files it plans
to write are older than yours. If so, one could save a copy of
windows\system, install the program and return the newer files from the
system folder copy to windows\system.

Thank you, Uncas. The surface plots may be what I'll have to use,
although I'd prefer bar charts positioned at say the non-integer
positions along the horizontal axes.

Thanks, lsj7. I'll need some answers from there. Had no idea TChart was
supported that much. If you have the address for the newsgroup, please
let me know. I'll google for it in the meantime.

Oops. Thank for the warning, dadiOH. I'm only an end user and not as
literate as you or the others here about the inner workings of these
machines. I'll have to check out the full capabilities of TChart and use
KYPlot as a backup if necessary then. I'm a bit apprehensive about moving
system files around on my computers.
