"Windows Movie Maker has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience." I get this message each time I want to use this
program and click on it.I did send the error report also but got no response.
How can this problem be resolved?

You fail to mention your OS...if you are
running Vista...disregard the following.

Some users have reported problems
after installing IE7. If this applies to your
situation ...uninstalling IE7 may be worth
a try.

I've also seen a report that disabling the
ffdshow codec could be the fix. To accomplish
this...open Movie Maker and go to...Tools /
Options / Compatibility tab...Uncheck...
ffdshow / OK.

Thank you for the info, John.
The OS is Windows XP Home edition. Will uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 affect the security updates and other programs installed after IE 7 was installed in my computer? I got this warning message while I was trying to uninstall the IE 7 and since I wasn't sure I aborted the process.

It shouldn't effect any of the other updates but after your done you can
certainly run Microsoft Update again to make certain.

==================================
Before uninstalling set a system restore point.
Who knows...it may not solve the Movie maker
issue anyway.

I don't think anything significant will be altered
but you'll have to be the judge. I installed /
uninstalled IE7 a few times just experimenting
and finally decided I did not want it at this time.
I'm still using IE6.

Thanks once again John. The Movie Maker issue is resolved after removing IE7
as suggested. Apparently, nothing seems to have been affected and IE6 is also
working fine.
I am still wondering will it ever work with IE7.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the update.

I suspect that eventually all or at
least most of the issues will be
cleared up but cannot speculate
as to when.

Disabling ffdshow audio decoder worked for me! I had previously tried
reinstalling Windows and had given up on getting it to work. Thanks!!
