Troubleshooting codecs

How do I figure out which video/audio is causing problems to MovieMaker?
I've tried unchecking all of them but when I test a few files in either
timeline or storyboard view, the clips won't play and nothing happens.

Is there an 'all in one' codec package that works well with MM?

it could be that you're trying to use a video source file that doesn't work
in Movie Maker... so finding the right codec isn't the answer. It's about
converting the file to one that works.

what kind of files are you trying to use?
 
I believe they are mpeg or avi.

MPEG-2 would need conversion, as would AVI files encoded by Divx, Xvid and
some other codecs... see my Import Movie Source Files > Video section
