Troubleshoot: How to correctly save new project in Windows Movie M

I just got Vista and WMM 6.0.6000.16386 on a new computer. I have created 2
projects (my first in WMM) into which I put many hours of time, and I saved
the projects in .mswmm format. I published both projects, each on its own DVD
and they work like a charm on DVD players. However, now when I open either
project in WMM, I cannot see any of the photos on the Storyboard. They
"cannot be found" although I can see them in the Collection folders of photos
imported for each respective project. In response to the pop-up, no, thank
you, I do not want to "browse" or reinsert and reorder hundreds of photos
individually. Can anyone help me on how to restore the missing photo links.
What can I have done wrong in saving the projects? I certainly need help.
Many thanks.

Have any of the original source files been
moved or deleted from their original locations
on your hard drive?

Do you see any Red Xs in Movie Maker
instead of thumbnails?

I am fairly sure that the original source files have not been moved, deleted
or changed. Does this mean that the imported photos that I see in the
Collection photos are linked to their original location (trying to understand
how WMM works)? Can I not move or delete the imported photos from their
original location? Could I therefore not import the photos from a CD directly
into WMM and find them if I don't have the CD? I was planning to do the
latter for my next New Project.

Yes, the project file links to the source
files. The actual files are not imported.

Not if you plan to re-open the project file.

================================
No...you must have the source files available
in the location they were in when you created
the project.

If Red Xs appear...that indicates the source files
were moved or deleted and if the files are still
available you may be able to right click the Xs
and browse to the new location to re-establish
the links.

I am having a terrible time saving my created movie to DVD. I can save the
un-edited clips to DVD fine, but i have to use the crappy program that came
with the camera. When i try to save the movies i made saved in wmm, th
ecomputer doesn't even recognize that file. Is it because I added a DVD
burner after market? any ideas?

I don't think the DVD burner is the issue...

If you only have the .mswmm project file
you need to save as a movie in the .wmv
or .avi format.

Then you need DVD Authoring software
that is compatible with those formats.

ideas:
