Hi,
I think the concept of "sleep" mode is great (session kept in ram on a
trickle of power). In practise there is something horribly wrong with the way
it plays with my machine (and has done since day one 18 months ago). When I
drop it into sleep, it resumes from sleep with... the BSOD (blue screen of
death)! I don't know how to troubleshoot this problem. It doesn't show up in
the reliability monitor.

There is "something horribly wrong" with someone who doesn't return a
new computer to get it fixed or replaced under warranty.

Google "troubleshoot sleep problems vista" and you will find lots of
material to work with.

I tried TinyURL for the link but that site is down right now.

There is nothing in the device manager called ACPI. Under the Computer node
there is something called ACPI x86 based PC. I don't seem to be able to
remove that.
Under the system devices node there are three candidates:
ACPI fan
ACPI fixed feature button
ACPI thermal zone

....are these what you're getting at? If so, which one?
