troubles with windows messenger

nobody seems to know why windows messenger has decided
not to work, msn messenger works fine. I have tried
downloading windows messenger 5.0 after trying to log on
and being told to upgrade version. it downloads o.k but
will not install.The error reads: Error occured during
the instalation of assembly componont.{874793Fc-5F43-496A-
8Fe7-18C4DB9B143D} phew...HRESULT:-2147024864.If anybody
can understand these hieroglyphic's they should be a
rocket scientist....helppppppppppp

Greetings Sheba,

Actually they're GUIDs, not hieroglyphics =). To figure out exactly what's going on here,
click Start, then Run, type "eventvwr.msc" and click OK, click Application on the left-side,
then look for Error's from the "MsiInstaller" source. The most recent one should be it,
assuming you haven't had any other problems with a Windows Installer. Double-click the Error,
and look in the Description field for a more accurate description of the problem. If you post
this description (there may be multiple errors in the Event Viewer, so post all of them), we
may be able to help much more easier.
