Troubles installing .net framework v2 please help

I have searched and searched for some information that will give me a good answer to this question. When I try to install the file NDP10_SP_Q321884_En.exe, I get this error

The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of this program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch

I am using an academic version of Visual Studio .Net 2003. I have no idea where I am going wrong, I tried to uninstall and reinstall. I tried to download the file again, I tried to remove .net framework v1.1 and the sdk so far I have had zero luck.

Hi Chad

It looks like you're trying to install SP2 for v1.0 onto your v1.1 installation. You have the wrong version of the framework installed. THere is no service pack for v1.1 yet, but one
is on its way.
