This week I'd installed SP3 and many scurity updates from
windows update site to my win 2000 file server.
Now the login time to the console is too long(about a
minute loadings personal preferences) and the explorer and
mcc works wrong. If I do restart to the server, the
problem desapere for a short time.
The even viewer show: The COM+ Event System detected a bad
return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was
800706BF from line 42 of .\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please
contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this
error.
I don't know what this means.
There are no problems to login from the network and use
the server.
The server is new and only the antivirus runs on it.
I'll appreciate your help

Do you have the patch 329170 installed? If so, please remove it. This
329170 has created problem about long shutdown time on many PC.

Antonio

Hi Meir and Antonio,

I saw this recommendation over a year ago before Service
Pack 3 was released. It works. My only question is
this. I assumed that Microsoft would fix this problem
when they released SP3. WRONG! Now what do I do now that
the fix is embedded with all the other fixes? Is there a
way to remove the patch for 329170 by itself?

(329170 MS02-070: Flaw in SMB Signing May Permit Group
Policy to Be Modified Base operating system)

Incidentally I did contact MS to complain about this over
a year ago. Obviously that was a waste of time. They
certainly had plenty of time to correct this problem.
They are too busy watching their fortunes grow and most of
us aren't knowledgable enough to switch our loyalties to
some other product, at least in the near term. Given
enough time that will change, I'm sure.

Thanks for any advice.

Best regards,

Wally

Hi Antonio and Meir,

I mis-spoke on the SP3 installation. It is SP4 that I
installed. 329170 was referred to as pre-SP4. Did you
really mean SP3 Meir? I don't believe it included
329170. That had to be installed separately.
