Trouble with WMM capture wizard and Canopus Advc 55

I am capturing old VHS video clips using an advc 55 connected to my dell
media center pc via firewire. I works well to start, but then I get a window
that says my device has disconnected, and stops the capture. It said to check
connections, they are good, but it seems to just drop the signal - and then
get it back, because I can hear the plug n play ding dong, and the capture
wizard opens. My old vhs only has rca plugs to connect to the converter. Dude
needs help

Well since it is disconnecting and reconnecting (the "ding dong" tells you
this for certain) then either one of the cables is bad or one of the ports
they plug into in all likelyhood. Or it could be the firewire card or port
itself.
First thing that I would try since it is the easiest is to use different
cables.
You could take the hook-up to your local computer shop and hook it into one
of their computers to see if it works. That would narrow things down for
you.
