Hello-
I upgraded my system from XP Pro SP2 to VISTA Beta 2 and several things have
stopped working. All my applications for one, I can not figure out why my
sound drivers doesn't work with VISTA - also I tried numberous times to
import my PST file with all my contacts, no avail. Plus, I am having trouble
figuring out why the malware for antivirus isn't working, which is CA Threat
management which was working in XP.

If there isn't any fixes, can I return or go back to Windows XP, or do I
have to reinstall it? Plus, I have another hard drive on the system which I
can not see any longer, any reason as to why this is happening?

first of all, forget trying to get your PST files. it wont work. second dont
expect XP sound drivers to work with Vista. Vista doesnt utilize the drivers
in same manner and it uses an unique driver (look in your sound Mfgr web
page) as far as the applications, same thing; driver issues, and upgrading XP
to BETA2 is generaly a bad idea for the reasons you are experiencing, and
unfortunately a one way trip. what i would do:
1. save any data that is important to cd or external drive
2. unplug the second HDD and re-install XP
3. unplug the XP drive and install Vista
4. plug the drive back in and use CMOS to choose which drive to boot.
now you have two perfectly running drives with their own MBR and are happy
living together. if you wanted you can add a boot entry into the VISTA
BOOT.ini so you can have a choice when booting the Vista drive.
there are different ways but keeping the OS separate is really best and
there is nothing to worry about if you decide to get rid of VISTA or vice
versa.

NOTE: if you re-install VISTA to a new release (do clean not up-grade)
remmember to unplug the XP drive before you do so, otherwise it will
overwrite the MBR in the XP drive and defeat our exercise!!!

Hi Alejo-

Interesting, I fought and fought with VISTA and BAM! I got the ".pst" file
to transfer in, and I install a SB-LIVE card and fought and BAM! It started
working!

It's interesting, that's for sure! But, I will seriously consider the
options you mentioned regarding the issues!

Thanks!
