Trouble with sound

The sound on my computer doesn't work since someone came to install a new
modem. I wasn't here, so I'm not sure what he did (and he's not easy to get
hold of, which is why I'm posting this).

The system sounds do not work. I've checked the volume controls--none of
them are muted. I looked at the sounds and audio option in control panel, and
it all looks normal. I've even compared the settings with the ones at work,
where the sound does work.

Please help!
Thanks,
Suroor

What modem and what sound card ?

Tied to un-install, reboot and re-install your soundcard drivers ?

Cheers,
Jerry

How do I uninstall and reinstall the sound driver?

Not sure which is the sound driver. I think it's Intel(r) 82801BA/BAM AC'97
Audio Controller. Does that make sense? The modem is a SoftV92 Data Fax
Modem, which is attached to COM3.

Thanks!

Download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website : Asus... MSI
etc

Right Click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager > Sound
Video etc and you'll find it there. un-install it, re-boot and install.

Hi.This is a little late to reply,but i thought i,d put my 2 cent,s in
anyway.If you have trouble with any program,or sound.Click start,all
programs, accessories, system tool,s.At the bottom is system restore. Then pick
an earlier date, and restore. It will bring the cp to that date when the
program did work.If you have trouble with the modem after that.Flip the modem
over, there is a little hole for the reset.Find something small enough to
fit.Hold it in until the lights turn red then let go.This will reset the
modem.Follow the instructions on the screen, will restart the modem.Hope this
helps in the future.PS.If you don,t want to use the reset button.Pull the
plug, wait 3 minutes this will also reset the modem.TL

Thanks, Terry!
