I bought a New Computer a few weeks back a HP 6130 n and it came with a
realtek soundcard (pretty sure its installed on the motherboard) and now for
some reason there is no sound. I've tried reconnnecting the speakers going
back to the built it ones in the moniter and just about everything else. Now
I'm pretty sure something is wrong with the soundcard but when I check it it
says that its working properly. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? Do
I need to download some new driver or something?

that's not bad idea if you go to the realtek website they have new drivers
for their audio card if that don't work just reply again

I've been trying to install the new driver but still getting no sound because
it says there is no supported driver. I've also tried reinstalling the
original drivers from the HP website and still getting nothing.

you did install twice right, i was shocked this morning when i did my
upgrade the first time you install it removes the original drivers then you
reboot, you start the setup file again then it actually installs it then you
reboot again and you should have sound, me this morning the volume went up
by 25% with the new drivers

Well I'm getting sound now but only out of the left speaker or left headphone
when I plug into the jack.

sounds(get it?) like a driver issue,or hardware

Would getting a new sound card work? and if so what cards would work best
with my computer? its an HP 6130 n Desktop with windows vista premium home
edition.

it might or it could have the same problem if it's driver issue, beside
before getting a new card i would return the pc and saying to them to fix it
for you. is there something you haven't tryed with the drivers even the
slightest thing could make difference

Actually when I download the realtek 1.78 drivers and try to run setup it
says that there is no supported driver in this package. What does this mean?

humm, seems like you got yourself the windows xp drivers not the vista
drivers

Pretty sure their the Vista ones but I'll download again to be sure. Also is
there another driver other then Realtek that might work on vista?

so far every sound issue that i heard were people using realtek, not that
realtek was the issue but they were using realtek, if you can go to the site
of realtek and download the vista drivers i don't understand what should go
wrong unless you have another problem. did you change any settings lately
even if it's week back?

No I just shut it down for the night and restarted it the next day and the
sound was gone. Could it maybe be the speakers?

Hi RyanH

To find details on your machine, go to the Hewlett-Packard website and enter
your model number (HP 6130 n) into the search box. Follow the links. I have
had a look through the website for details on your model. It states that the
onboard audio is ALC888S. This requires a High Definition Audio Codec driver.
You can download drivers from the HP website, however the current version,
available from Realtek, is version R1.78. Make sure that you download the
correct version as there are versions for Vista and also for Win2000/XP/2003.

Hope this helps.

I had problems with my sound. None coming out of the speakers, yet all things
showed that they were working. I downloaded the Realtek AC97 drivers for
Vista and still had problems. Took it to a computer repair shop. He told me
that he haad the same problems and couldn't get sound either. Then informed
me that it could be the motherboard, went to the website and NO VISTA drivers
were there to download, couldn't find any Vista drivers anywhere for my
motherboard. Simple solution: I purchased a USB Vista compatable sound card
off Ebay for A$7.00. Guess what,
I now have sound coming out of my speakers and my microphone also now works.
Better than replacing the motherboard as suggested by someone.
Hope this is some help.
