Trouble with SATA Controller

Hi. I checked through prior threads and did not come up with any answers, so
I apologize if I missed something. I recently bought a cheap Maxtor 100GB
SATA drive. Having a system that is a few years old and no integrated
support for SATA, I purchased a PCI SATA controller. A VIA A-6421 to be
exact. I have tried the card in two different systems and I see nothing at
the BIOS level indicating that my BIOS is yielding to another piece of
hardware. Just boots right into the OS. At first, I thought the card was
bad, so I had it replaced but the issue remains. I have no prior experience
with SATA devices, so I don't even know what to check. I'm at a loss. I'm
not sure if there is any further information that would help. If so, please
ask. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What is your motherboard brand and model number (so we can check BIOS
options in manual)?

Which OS ? XP should have picked it up.

Yes, it's XP but does not detect the card at all.

It should show up in the Device Manager with a yellow
question mark against it if it cant work out what it is.

All you need to do is to load the appropriate drivers for it.

I know you said that that made no difference, most likely
because your dont have the correct drivers for that card.

Nope. Not even a yellow warning. Nothing at all in device manager. Nothing
but my motherboard's IDE controllers. I have a driver disk that came with
the card and the install didn't work because the hardware was not detected.
Thanks.

Must be something seriously ****ed with your XP
install or the slot you're plugging the card into.

Check for an updated bios for the motherboard.

Install seems fine otherwise, and now I have had the same problem on another
computer. But thanks for your help. Maybe I'll try updating the BIOS on one
or both of them and see what happens.
