Trouble with online scans

Tried to do a virus detection online scan with Kaspersky. I was told
that my configuration (for IE6) did not permit downloading of Active X
controls. IE6 security is set to medium, so it does permit signed
ActiveX. I was also told that as I am not logged in as administrator I
do not have permission to do the online scan. Windows 2000 (my os) has
me currently logged in as administrator. Great!!!

Any ideas, please?

I just tried it on Win 2K logged in as admin and had to drop the
slider all the way down to lowest security in order to get past the
message and get it to work. It is a trustworthy site, so you could
put it in your Trusted Sites zone. I recommend using KASFX
from my web site since it uses the Kaspersky scan engine. It will
first do a update and then run the av scanner. Thereafter, you can use
the included Kav-up.exe to update. mwavscan.com is the av.

Thanks. I'll give it a go.I also had the same message with Symantic's
online scan. I have zonealarm firewall enabled, and since posting have
read in their faqs that firewalls should be disabled when downloading
the scanner.

Any comments about that?

I was successful with a wireless NAT router/firewall. I don't know
offhand why some need to disable their software firewalls, but that's
a form of suicide :) It only takes a few minutes nowdays to take hits.
So don't ever do it for any reason.
