This request is a repeat - Noone has responded as yet.

My neighbor has an old Compaq IJ300 desk jet printer that is acting
strange. It prints triple letters, numbers, lines, whatever,
vertically displaced about 1/16" or so. For example, the line

'This is the end of the printer test page'

Is printed three times on top of each other but super-
imposed with each line displaced vertically abut 1/16"
(like a stutter):

'This is the end of the printer test page
This is the end of the printer test page
This is the end of the printer test page'

Can anyone suggest what I might try? I did reinstall
the driver (under WXP Pro SP2)

I am not sure on this one - I wonder if it is the paper slipping as the
print head makes more than one pass over the page - does it make any
difference as to whether you print in economy mode, or best quality??

If it is the paper slipping, check to see if there is a setting on the
printer to adjust paper thickness - it could be set for thick paper

I'll check

Thanks

I didn't see anything - If it is a matter of disassembling the printer
to do such an adjustment, then maybe I should try to dismantle it. No
good this way anyhow.

Thanks.

We are having the same problem. Attached the printer to a new Dell 1505
laptop. I'm thinking that is more of a compatability problem with XP
rather than a printer problem.

I never thought of that. I think I still have an old HDD around with
W98 on it. When I get a chance, I think I'll try it to check out what
you suggest - and let ya know.

You are absolutely right! I re-connected to my old W98 HDD, booted,
installed a driver I found in www.Driverguide.com
and the printer prints just fine. Then I returned to my XP HDD, did
same thing, and the printing 'stutters' again.

Sobeit I guess.

Thanks

Shoot- I have the same problem with the 'ol Compaq IJ300 printing
triple. Problem is, I was printing earlier today with no problems but
the ink running out. I replaced the Lexmark Color 80 cartridge with
the Lexmark Black 70, supposedly compatible, when the triple text
problem started.

I just popped the old color cartridge in for fun, and it prints fine.

Any suggestions?

I fixed the problem for a client today - he went to XP from 98, and the
issue is directly related to XP. Go to Lexmark and get the XP driver
for the "Z11 Color Jetprinter." Lexmark made the IJ300 for Compaq, and
Compaq doesn't offer a driver for download.

Installed the Lexmark Z11 driver, and it worked fine after that.

There are two XP drivers out there on Lexmark site. I downloaded and
tried both. Neither fixed my problem. So I still fear that my
problem at least is the printer itself.

Thanks for post anyway
