Just finished building a new PC system from Tigerdirect. I am attempting a
transfer of programs from my old pc to the new one with Laplink PCmover.
Although this program has performed flawlessly in the past, and in fact did
with my most recent transfer from a Dell to another new unit I built, I now
only keep getting a "partial" transfer due to an error. It wouldn't be so
bad if I knew exactly what didn't transfer- does anyone know how to view
this information in PCmover? The manual and on-line support don't mention
it as far as I know. I am using Win XP SP 3.

Thanks in advance,
Erik

Just re-install them from scratch. Saves a load of grief in the long
run.

No offense, but if it was that simple, I'd have already done it. Due to all
the stuff on the old pc, it would take a lot longer to reinstall from
scratch than to do the transfer even with a lot of programs needing
reauthorization. I could live with this "partial migration" if there was an
easy way to tell what wasn't transferred. Any clues?

So why did you ask the question ?

You won't be comfortable in a very close future because the drivers you
transferred may come in conflict with the new hardware or some will be
missing wrt the new configuration, except if tou kept the exactly same Mobo
& Graphic adapter as well as the same OS version & configuration

If the Laplink product isn't well documented, you could try using
Sysinternals Process Monitor, to track what it is doing.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx

For example, you set the "filter" in Process Monitor, to only
show "pcmover.exe" program activity, assuming that is the name
of the program. If the program is having problems with a registry
entry, you might see the registry entry being accessed. Or, if
the program keeps a manifest file somewhere, of what it has moved, you
might see it accessing that file.

Pretty kludgy way of doing things, but I've fixed one problem
on my PC using Process Monitor. It showed me the registry entry
a program was looking for, before it failed.

Be aware, that some AV products, don't mix with Sysinternals tools.
It has to do with the low level facilities that Sysinternals is
accessing. Kaspersky used to freeze the computer, when mixed
with some of the Sysinternals programs. So the first time you
try it, you could be in for a surprise :-(
