I had a GeForce 3 working fine in my machine. I traded
that to someone for a TNT2, since I had a new GeForce
FX5600 on the way. The TNT2 is currently running fine in
my machine. But the GeForce FX gives me trouble. I
updated my AGP bus (from sis.com) and got the latest
drivers (from NVidia.com), and they don't fix this
problem.
When I put the card in, my system works fine with it
during the DOS-like part of boot up. But when XP starts,
the display is streaked with red lines (I can make out
icons, and sometimes text). XP tells me it detected new
hardware. I've tried letting XP search (it doesn't find
drivers--it puts in "Video Controller (VGA)") and
cancelling to manually install my dloaded drivers. In
either case, when I restart the computer, my display is
still streaked in red, and XP again detects my video card
as if I never installed the drivers.
The distorted image appears whether I start XP normally,
in Safe Mode, or in VGA Enabled mode.
Any help would be *greatly* appreciated. Is it likely to
be just a defective card? (I'm having the card looked at
now.) Please email me. Thanks!
