trouble with Email attachments.

What exactly are .LNK files? I'm having horrible trouble with Email attachments. When I try to send a file from Word it picks up as a .LNK instead of .DOC & they either won't arrive or the receiving person can't open them. Help. Is it my Email or Word??
 
LNK is a shortcut to a file. Make sure you're sending the file itself.
