Good morning all,
I'm having trouble with a Win98SE Laptop running on our
Win2k (SP4) Network.
While I can see the machine fine (through My Network
Places... Entire Network... Microsoft Windows Network...
Our Network Name... Appropriate Box), and have set up a
shared folder which I can open with no problems, I can
not use the ADMIN share (C$) to view the contents of his
C: drive. I CAN use this on every other box on the
network, no exceptions, no problems.
His Logon is set to Client For Microsoft Windows, he
can see the network fine, and can surf through our web
server, so clearly, communication IS taking place.
There don't seem to be any conflicting IP issues (DHCP
is running on the server and at last check, each machine
in house has its own, unique IP - Leases are set to
expire every three weeks, and I've not yet seen any
problem with that scenario).
My only concern is the ADMIN share. I have another
IDENTICALLY configured 98SE laptop that I can query with
the share no problem, so I'm a bit confused.
Any help getting this annoying box to recognize the
ADMIN share would be most appreciated.
I'm a graphic artist / web designer and if I can offer
any help in that area of expertise, I would be most happy
to reciprocate.
Thanks in advance,
Art... (Yeah, it's my real name) (Funny how that works
sometimes, eh?)

Win9x (any flavor) does not have Admin Shares. Those are only on NT4.0,
Win2k, XP-Pro (not XP-Home), and Server2000 & 2003.

You can manually create them but they still wouldn't be true "admin shares"
but would just simply be "hidden shares".

Ah,
Thanks for the quick reply. So the one that exists on
the other 98ES laptop was just created as a hidden share
at some point and I'm just accessing THAT? Huh. Who'd
have thought.
Thanks much, I'll have to look into creating a hidden
one for the "annoying box" then.
