My notebook has not acted properly since the latest automatic update from
windows was installed around the 13th of feb.....it acts like it doesn't want
to wake up. The lights come on, but the ones indicating cpu activity do not
come on. This appears to be more common when I forget to shut down and the
computer does it for me, but also has happened first thing in the morning
after a full shutdown the night before. Anyone else having these problems or
do I need to head to the repair shop?

You need to uninstall the latest update...then you need to change your
settings to let the automatic update NOTIFY you so that YOU can decide what
to download....you should only download the priority ones for MS
software....all hardware updates should come from the hardware manufacturer.

Peter, I did that when the problem first began, and it was a prioity update
that automatically reinstalled after I shut down the next time. I realize
that I can opt to not install it, but since I am not really on top of what is
important and what is not, I have tended to let MS tell me what is priority
or not.........really don't know if that is what is causing the problem, but
that is the only change that has occurred........
will restore to prior date again and opt not to install the update, and see
what happens then I guess! Thanks!!

Check the ReportingEvents.log located in
WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution

That will show all updates that were sucessfully installed
automatically. However, I'm not certain if it will show a driver
installation since I never allow the auto install of drivers.

can you tell me how to change my settings? I am going to try again to
restore it to a point prior to the updates, and want to make sure they don't
automatically download again!
thanks
