I am recieving the error in Outlook mentioned on the following page:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822503

The instructions say to resolve the issue for an existing installation,
specify the *.pst file by using the Mail icon in Control Panel. First of
all, I do not know what *.pst file they are referring to. The following
directory on my machine:

C:\Documents and Settings\Nathan Sokalski\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Contains the following *.pst files:

archive.pst
(e-mail address removed)-00000002.pst
Outlook1.pst
Outlook.pst

I am very new to Microsoft Outlook, and anything I have done with it in the
past is not anything I need to keep (in otherwords, I will be recreating any
profiles, etc. that I had before), but because I am so inexperienced with
Outlook, I am having trouble figuring out exactly how to follow the
instructions on the support page I mention at the beginning of this message.
I also would like to note, if it makes any difference, that the only reason
I want Outlook installed on my machine is so that I can synchronize my
PocketPC's Calendar & Address Book with my Windows Live Hotmail Calendar &
Address Book (I do not plan on using Outlook for email in any way). If
anybody can help me follow the instructions from the support page mentioned
above, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Did you install Outlook using the method they describe in that article --
i.e. using the Custom Installation Wizard? If not, I don't think this
article will help you. How did you install Outlook/Office? What version of
Office is this?

I am using Office 2003. When I installed it, I don't think I used the Custom
Installation Wizard; I believe I just used the default settings for any
options that I was given during installation. If the article won't help me,
do you have any suggestions on where I can get help? Thanks.

First disable any antivirus add-ins for Outlook, then try opening it again.
If that doesn't work, see if you can open Outlook in Safe Mode (which
disables all add-ins temporarily) -- click the Windows Start button, then
Run, then type in

outlook.exe /safe

and click OK.

I tried entering the following at the Run command line:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE /safe

Put quotes around it, like this:

"C:\Program FIles\Microsoft Office\Office11\outlook.exe" /safe

Make sure there is a space before "/safe".

I have tried that, it did not make any difference.

What version of Outlook? Since all the old text is trimmed out, I don't
see what it was if it came before.

But, well, heck, odds are it's in the path, just try Start - Run - outlook
/safe

I am using Outlook 2003. In the Start Menu where the shortcut was created
when I installed it, it says Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. It is hard for
me to get more specific details than that, since I can't open Outlook to
look at the About to see the exact build version. If there is a file that I
can look at to get more specific details that will help you help me solve my
problem, let me know, but I would be perfectly happy with just a clean
install if necessary, but my machine just seems to hate Outlook for some
reason. Thanks.

Well, again, what happens if you just do Start - Run - outlook /safe ?
